Asphalt Shingles
Asphalt shingle roofs are becoming popular for a couple of reasons. Installation is economical and reasonably priced, averaging around $50 - $150 per square. They also require little maintenance, versatile and will go with almost any design, provide excellent protection on steep sloped roofs, can be cut easily, and can be nailed using power nailers. Some chemicals are also added to the shingles to make them mold and algae resistant. Shingles with fiberglass as base material are more popular since they are less expensive compared to those which uses organic felt as base. Fiberglass shingles are also lighter and thinner, have a long wear life and have better fire rating. In the past asphalt shingle roofs were only available in shades of black, gray and brown but many manufacturers have expanded their product lines so you can now find an assortment of colors which best suit the overall design of your house.
